Liberal Arts and Sciences: Analyse Complex Issues
As a student at Amsterdam University College (A.U.C.), you will learn to analyze complex issues from different perspectives by drawing on various academic fields of knowledge. Discussions start with the ‘big questions’ in science and society and lead to in-depth study in a wide range of academic disciplines. The curriculum features six interdisciplinary themes: Energy, Climate and Sustainability; Life, Evolution and the Universe; Health and Well-being; Information, Communication, Cognition; Social Systems; and Cities and Cultures. These themes will provide you with a solid orientation as you decide on your major in the sciences, social sciences or humanities.
As a member of the A.U.C. student community, you will be part of a vibrant international group of young people interested in studying real-world problems that cross the boundaries of academic disciplines. By working in a diverse environment of different languages and cultures, you will develop your creativity, critical thinking, and your problem-solving and communication skills. A.U.C. students live and study together on our modern international campus, located in Science Park Amsterdam. Studying at A.U.C. is a true intercultural and social learning experience.
As an A.U.C. graduate, you will be in possession of an internationally recognized Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree. You will be qualified to apply for Masters-level studies at major universities in both the Netherlands and abroad, potentially going on to pursue a Ph.D. You may also, of course, decide to embark on a career in the corporate world, go to work for a public organization or pursue other options.
Your personal tutor will advise you throughout your studies at A.U.C., helping you to make choices in the A.U.C. curriculum and supporting you in achieving your ambitions.
Every day, you will be involved in intensive and small-scale seminars with high-caliber international staff. An A.U.C. tutor (academic adviser) will support you in the process of planning your study program to help ensure it meets your academic and/or career goals. Throughout the program, a great deal of emphasis is placed on taking an interdisciplinary approach to scientific reasoning.
