The BEd (Intermediate Phase Teaching) program consists of fundamental, core and elective modules that prepare students to teach effectively in multilingual and multicultural classrooms.

Practical competence: Language proficiency in chosen languages. Writing and productive skills. Translation, interpreting, and text editing skills. Terminology and document management skills. Basic language, text, and discourse research skills. Supportive linguistic, text and discourse, psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, socio-pragmatic, pragma-linguistic, and cross-cultural competence.Foundational competence: Knowledge of and insight into the theoretical underpinning of linguistics, the chosen languages, and communication. Reflective competence: Strategic and critical application of theory in linguistics and communication with a view to practical, academic, and professional situations.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop students to become community development leaders in the facilitation of processes, techniques, and principles in the initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainment of developmental projects and programs, based on people-centered, asset-based participatory theoretical approaches to address inequality, poverty, and injustice.

The purpose of the BCom Hons in Transport Economics is to develop intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, interpretation, understanding, and application of transport economics, management, and regulatory principles.

The purpose of the BCom Hons in Strategic Management is to provide students with a deepened knowledge and understanding of constructing and implementing organizational strategies in a complex adaptive social environment. They should further be able to conduct and report on research in the discipline of strategic management practices to develop and implement organizational strategies.

The purpose of the BCom (Marketing Management) program is to provide students with the knowledge base, theories, and methods of marketing management.

The purpose of the BCom / BCom Hons in Logistics Management is to develop intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, interpretation, understanding, and application of logistics management principles.

The purpose of the BCom in Entrepreneurial Management is to provide qualifying students with intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and application of underlying theories models and approaches to entrepreneurship to be applied in an existing organization and or in new venture creation with the aim to grow.

The purpose of the BCom in Information Management is to provide qualifying students with: intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and application of basic and advanced information management principles in the different functional units of the business organization; the ability to reflect on their managerial decisions and applications and to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of information and knowledge management as a practice; and knowledge in preparation for a career in the information management field, as well as to provide a basis for further learning.

The purpose of the BCom in Information Systems is to strengthen and deepen the student’s knowledge and to develop the student’s applied competence in analyzing, interpreting, and understanding information systems development processes, principles, and methods. It further develops the intellectual independence, research, and professional skills of the student. The qualification prepares students to contribute meaningfully to organizations’ information systems development, acquisition, utilization, and quality thereof.

The purpose of the BCom Hons in Industrial Psychology is to empower students to acquire knowledge and develop an understanding of industrial psychology as an applied science that focuses on human behavior in the context of work. Industrial psychology entails the application of psychological theories, principles, and practices to optimize individual, group, and organizational well-being and effectiveness.

The purpose of the BA Hons in Tourism Development is to develop the ability of the student to question, analyze and interpret tourism and hospitality development issues within a global context. The purpose is achieved through the delivery of tuition and a research-based project where the student shows evidence of research and the ability to reflect on tourism and hospitality development issues.

The purpose of the BA in Public Management and Governance is to provide qualifying students with substantive, theoretical, and intellectual knowledge, cognitive and research skills such as critical reasoning, data mining, and processing, problem-solving, interpretation, analytical and evaluative skills; communication skills and a normative basis in line with internationally accepted dimensions of “good governance”.

The Honours in Psychology program is offered on a full-time basis only. The students are required to complete six modules within a one-year period. The research component is the only compulsory module and runs for the full year, as such this module counts as two modules.

The BA Honours (Urban Studies) program introduces students to critical perspectives on urbanization and city development. Students become familiar with debates on the politics of cities and institutions, informality, consumption, and ways in which people participate in and reshape city life.
