The Program aims at preparing English philology specialists with a broad range of knowledge and competencies, who know English and another foreign language well, who have grasped the fundamentals of linguistics, literary and translation studies, and teaching English as a foreign language; who are familiar with political, social, and cultural specificities of English-speaking countries and are capable of contextualizing them and discussing them in relation to global developments; who are able to successfully apply their knowledge in practice, from work-related to scholarly contexts. This program prepares specialists who, once they have gained their Bachelor degree, can continue their studies in this field at the Master’s level or move to studies in other fields: that is, they can choose Master’s studies in English philology, translation, computer linguistics, literary and cultural studies, education, journalism, political science, and other fields.
The curriculum of the English Language and Literature Department includes the study of mythology, British society and culture, and literary genres and periods ranging from Old and Middle English to the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.
The English Studies programme combines the academic study of literature and linguistics, ultimately leading to specialization in one of these disciplines. Through research and critical thinking about texts of many eras and genres, you will learn to develop, articulate and defend your ideas clearly and with confidence.
Three-year undergraduate programme
The three-year study includes literary studies (Introduction to Literary Theory, British Literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, American Literature from the beginnings until the 1st half of the 20th century);

You explore literature and culture in the English-speaking world in depth. Not only in Great Britain and the United States but also Ireland, Australia, and South Africa.
The program combines theoretical instruction with the practical application of knowledge and skills. Its aim is to produce graduates with an advanced level of language competence - proficient users of English (C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) who are capable of communicating in English in various communicative contexts and in various types of institutions. The program exists only in the "completus" version.
