Introduction
For over 20 years GPRC has been offering this program in partnership with the University of Calgary and has hosted it in several communities across northern Alberta.
A degree in Social Work prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary for generalist social work practice. This includes such diverse settings as schools, hospitals, treatment facilities, corrections, planning councils, family and youth service agencies, and long-term care centers. Social workers are licensed by the Alberta College of Social Workers.
The U of C is in the process of redesigning the BSW curriculum. Students are still invited to attend GPRC for their first two years of study, prior to transferring to U of C for the remainder of the program. Students will then apply to the Virtual (Online) Learning Circle (VLC) program at the University of Calgary.
The VLC program includes two mandatory week-long residencies (five days each) at U of C's Calgary or Edmonton campus. The remainder of the program will be delivered online, and as always, U of C will support students in finding a field practicum in their home community.
