Introduction

Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication (BIGC) is a comprehensive university under the joint jurisdiction of the General Administration of Press and Publishing (GAPP) and the Beijing Municipal Government. It was previously the Department of Printing in the Cultural Institute under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture in 1958. Due to the National Adjustment of Higher Learning institutions and departments in 1961, the Culture Institute was closed. BIGC’s origin as the Department of Printing was integrated into the Central Academy of Handicrafts and Fine Arts (CAHFA). In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, the Department of Printing branched out of CAHFA, and BIGC was formally established.

With over 50 years of development, BIGC has become a media university, drawing disciplinary strength from engineering, humanities, management, and the arts.
