Shimonoseki City University

Introduction

Shimonoseki City is located in the westernmost part of Honshu Island. It is bordered by the Kanmon Straits to the south, the Suo Sea to the east, and the Hibiki Sea to the west. The city is blessed with the rich beauty of the ocean and mountains and boasts significant historical and cultural assets. The diversity of Shimonoseki City is linked to the diversity of Shimonoseki City University. Students attending Shimonoseki City University come from throughout Japan, a characteristic of the university. It varies from year to year, but generally, slightly less than 40% are from Kyushu, slightly more than 40% are from Chugoku and Shikoku, and about 15% are from Kansai, Chubu, Kanto, Tohoku, and Hokkaido. About 2% of our students are from overseas. Born and raised in diverse areas, these students gather at Shimonoseki City University, study, debate, and work together, enabling them to grow.

Shimonoseki City University offers programs in the Department of Economics, the Department of International Commerce, and the Department of Public Management in the Faculty of Economics; and graduate programs in the Graduate School of Economics. The university also offers diverse basic and liberal arts curricula. Diversity-based education is supported by unique and diverse research conducted by our teaching staff. This diversity is the energy polishing the “Wisdom of Straits,” with which students are developed into being “well-balanced, refined and sophisticated professionals,” who are able to “contribute to the development of regional and international societies.”
